Misamis Occidental : A Breathtaking Countryside
In my years of living abroad there had been no time that i forgot my hometown. A place where I grew up and molded me to become the best person that I can be. It is where I find solitude and serenity by simply walking along the countryside of this magnificent province.
Misamis Occidental is a province situated in the northern part of Mindanao. Oroquieta City is the capital and Ozamis City is the business hub of the province because it is where the airport located and mostly business establishments are there. It’s just an hour and 15 minutes away by plane from Metro Manila and there are two flights daily either by CebuPac or PAL.
As a person it is important not to take for granted the place that saw all your endeavors and achievements in life. As the famous line ” ang Hindi marunong lumingon ay di makakarating sa kanyang paroroonan” so it is with great pride and honor to take you to a place that will make you fall in love again.
First, Oroquieta City, my birth place. It’s just an hour away from the airport by land travel. If you love Mother Nature then this is the best place for you. Upon reaching the City, it won’t be hard to find a place to stay coz there are cheap yet nice hotels around the area. One famous destination in the city is their Boulevard or “the city plaza” as the locals call it. The Boulevard is facing the sea and the best spot to experience the best sunrise you’ll ever witness. A breathe of fresh and crisp air, sound of the waves that rushing thru the shores and a peaceful surrounding will make everyone’s soul ameliorate from stress. Taboc Hanging Bridge is another spot that you shouldn’t missed when you’re in the city. The bridge is made up of woods and been there for decades and still stand thru the test of time.
Next is the Municipality of Baliangao. The place is famous for its white powdery sand beaches, fresh seafoods and fruits. The beaches here are untouched and clean. It’s a haven for couples or even those singles who just want to have a private moments in their life as the place is quiet and placid. And try their freshly catch seafoods and fresh fruits lined on the street in a very cheap price.
And then visit The Christmas Symbol Capital of the Philippines, Tangub City. As the tag line itself i need not explain to you what the City is famous of. The tradition usually starts on the 1st of December until first week of January. Every year the City has different themes for its symbols. Afterwards you can visit Hoyohoy highland Park. It is believe to be the highest and the longest zip line in Asia. Whilst in the Park you can try horseback riding or simply staring at the sea of clouds that are covering some parts of the Province.
In the Municipality of Sinacaban where MOAP is located that stands as Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park. The Park is also a sanctuary for different and some endangered species that can only be found in the Philippines. Another thing that the Park is famous of is the Dolphin Rescue center where you can have the chance to feed some rescued dolphins and turtles and can even play with them. A motorboat or bangka will take you to the island coz it is situated in the middle of the sea, a manmade island.
Meanwhile in the Municipality of Sapang Dalaga where you can find the hidden waterfalls known Baga Falls believe to be homed of some fairies because of its stunning beauty and calm place. On the highest peak of the area prepared to be taken away of the view of the whole municipality, it’s simply amazing and indescribable.
And if you are hungry and looking for some native and sweet delicacies then the Municipality of Clarin will satisfy your cravings. It is where you can find the best delicacies in a very reasonable price.
And for the historically inclined and buffs people you must visit Jimenez for it’s also named as the little Vigan in the Province where you can glimpse a touched of Spanish inspired houses and the oldest church is also located there St. John the Baptist and declared as one of the national treasures by the NCCA. Or visit Ozamis Cotta and behold this old Spanish Fort after which you can drop by at the miraculous “Birhen ng Cotta”.
These are just a few of what the Province of Misamis Occidental has to offer to its visitors. I’ve already fall in love with the place and will never be tired of loving this beautiful place. I hope you will include this on your next travel adventures and experience a different kind of hospitality that you can only find here.
